*BALOO the Dog needs a home
Baloo came to the shelter after running loose for some time. He was apprehensive to be handled and would growl at anyone trying to enter his kennel. Staff continued to work with him and Baloo began allowing those he trusts to enter his kennel and work with him further. Baloo still does show signs of kennel protectiveness by acting aggressive, though he is very food motivated. We believe Baloo to be a mixed breed dog but agree that he may have some Fila and Dane in him. Fila''s are generally described as fiercly loyal to family with an aversion to stangers or outsiders. The breed can also be aloof or standoff-ish. Fila''s were initially breed for hunting so they have a very strong prey drive. It is recommended that Baloo be the only dog in the house with no other pets... especially smaller pets, as he may attempt to hunt them. Because Baloo has had a harder time trusting people and being handled on occasion, we also recommend that he go to a home with no children. Baloo needs to be given space when he requests it and not be pushed into an uncomfortable situation so he will also need an alert and experienced dog owner.
Baloo has been improving greatly the last few weeks and he has shown he is very smart. He knows how to sit, shake, speak and just learned `hop.` He also knows that he can sometimes trick you into an extra treat and will try to outsmart his people on occasion. He may not show much interest in new people at first but once he finds the snacks in your pocket, he will show you how smart his is.
